Dr. Jeffrey Lam was born and raised in Kingston, Ontario. He received both his BSc specializing in X-ray Technology in 2009 and his BSc (Hons) specializing in Life Science in 2010 from Queen’s University. While working as an X-ray Technologist at Kingston General Hospital, Hotel Dieu Hospital, and St. Mary’s of the Lake Hospital for 5 years, he has experience within emergency, surgical, rehabilitation and palliative care units. Enriched by his clinical settings, Dr. Lam decided to pursue further clinical studies to train as an Optometrist. Dr. Lam completed his Doctor of Optometry Degree from the University of Waterloo in 2017 graduating on the Dean's honours list and elected as class Valedictorian.
Dr. Lam completed an externship at Omni Eye Services in Atlanta, Georgia where he worked alongside several ophthalmology specialists. These specialties included cataract, glaucoma, cornea, retinal and general ophthalmologist eye surgeons. He also completed multiple externships within Kingston at different eye care clinics. Dr. Lam received training at Galen Eye Centre and St. Lawrence Optometry training with ophthalmologists and optometrists who specialized in glaucoma, general ophthalmology, and primary eye care. Dr. Lam also has a passion for Ocular Surface Dry Eye Disease and Scleral Contact Lenses. He was mentored under Dr. R. Maharaj and Dr. F. Vafaie at EyeLabs Optometry and Dry Eye Clinic in Brampton, Ontario. During his time there, he received clinical training in meibomian gland expression and punctal plug insertions to help those suffering from chronic dry eye.
In addition to his passion for clinical practice, Dr. Lam enjoys training and working with future optometrists. Dr. Lam works closely with the Canadian Association of Optometry Students on their advisory board. He was awarded with the Dr. Margaret Hansen des Groseilliers Award for excellence in leadership by the Canadian Optometric Education Trust Fund as Dr. Lam strongly believes in helping future clinicians develop clinical knowledge to better serve the public. Dr. Lam offers eye care in both English and Cantonese.
When Dr. Lam has downtime, he enjoys woodworking, cheering for the Toronto Raptors, listening to audio books and spending time with his wife Celia and his daughter. He also enjoys discussing the latest trends in culture, technology, and must-try foods!
